We’re always thrilled to source great coffees from our friends at Semilla! This is our first time bringing in a coffee from Marleny Imbachi, an exceptionally knowledgeable and talented producer. Marleny and her husband, Augusto Ortega, are both well-renowned producers in San Augustin and founding members of the Monkaaba group.
We’re happy to share Marleny’s Gesha, a variety renowned for its quality potential. Gesha varietals are known for their delicate floral notes and this coffee has just that! We taste tea-like notes, delicate floral undertones, plus a lively citrus acidity that reminds us of grapefruit and honeydew melon.
The Monkaaba group is an initiative aimed at assisting producers in finding better market access and better prices for their coffees, but also helps invest in producers to ensure their future success. The group is educating producers on how the supply chain works so that they can better navigate it, while helping them to improve growing, harvesting, and processing techniques. They also host open weekly cuppings to improve producer’s ability to evaluate and understand their coffees while they receive feedback from other members.
